Familiar Strangers.
This series of paintings is about moments in life. I love to look for old photos of people I’ve never met in antique markets. I look through boxes of photos and take the ones that catch my eye. A person’s face, eyes and expressions tend to tell a little about them. A photo is a moment in a person’s life and through painting that moment I feel like I can connect in some way with this person. I can get to know them on some level. The technique I use, the colors and the details of the painting express what the photo made me feel. This person “comes back to life” and shares this moment with other people they’ve never met. Aren’t we all connected in some way?
